Improvising Your Way Into Character w/Kim Berrios Lin

Ages 8-18

Finding your way into characters through improvisation. Students will start class by stretching their character muscles with fun improv warmups. Students will then learn how to build a character within given parameters by exporing vaious character breakdowns and scenes. 

 

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Kim Berrios Lin is an actor, producer, and writer, whose favorite role is being a (NJ local) mom of two. She is most recently known for her recurring role in 'Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin' on Max,  in which she plays the wife of Lea Salonga and Mother of Pretty Little Liar, Malia Pyles. You can catch her next in season 2, "Pretty Little Liars: Summer School' once it airs. Other notable acting credits include 'Law & Order SVU (NBC), 'FBI' (CBS), 'Better Nate Than Ever' (Disney+), 'Pose' (FX), 'New Amsterdam' (NBC), 'Almost Family' (Fox), 'Bull' (CBS), and 'The Politician' (Netflix). 

Kim is the founder of the award winning, socially conscious indie production company 'And She Flew', cofounder of the social justice theatre org 'Colors of Community', holds an MFA from 'The Actor's Studio Drama School', and is on the advisory committee of "Applaud Our Kids'. She is an ensemble member of: 'Barefoot Theatre Company', Labyrinth Theater Intensive Ensemble', 'Playful Substance', and 'Rock The Bells': a sketch comedy team that she peforms and writes for.

Commercial And U5 Acting Technique w/CD, Maria Hubbard

Ages 8-18

Throughout this detailed workshop Maria will take you through the various steps of auditioning for TV/Film. Students will the learn the difference between auditioning for costars, guest stars, and series regulars. Students will learn many essential audition requirements and tips such as: improving improvisational skills, improving basic on camera techniques, becoming more confident and comfortable in front of the camera, nailing one liners, and creating a "brand" for yourself when auditioning. The class will culminate in a Q&A and a mock audition where the students will all read copy and find out how they can improve. 

About the instructor 

Maria Hubbard is a NYC-based acting coach and teacher whose clients are booking roles in all mediums - from guest star, recurring and series regular roles in cable, streaming and network TV, as well as independent film and theater. She specializes in working with actors in all stages of their career - from audition prep to on-set acting coach, Maria encourages actors to be confident in their choices and provides insights so they can deliver their best work. She currently serves as an Adjunct with Pace Performing Arts Film & TV Program and is a frequent guest advisor with NYU Grad Acting.

Maria's past experiences in casting includes  having been the Casting Coordinator at FOX since 2011, working on all year-round programming for the network. Projects include the series Minority Report, The Frankenstein Code, The Guide to Life and Rosewood. While at FOX Maria had also worked on hit series Empire, The Last Man on Earth, Wayward Pines, 24: Live Another Day, and Brooklyn 99, among others. Prior to joining the FOX network Maria was an independent casting director on numerous projects with the Columbia University MFA program, and was Casting Associate at Tucker/Meyerson casting where she worked on such projects as Rescue Me, Damages, Fringe, and Nurse Jackie. Before her work in casting Maria started as an agent's assistant at The Gersh Agency.

Song Interpretation & Audition Technique w/Lawrence Street

Students will learn how to properly disect a song and make smart and creative choices in an effort to create active, truthful, and original performances. Students will focus on understanding the text, breath, phrasing, disction, placement, and the use of the body. Students will prepare and perform a 16 bar audition cut of their choice and receive feedback from the instructor. All students must come prepared with their own marked sheet music in a binder.
